Broadhempston is a small village school of about 65 children, split between three classes. It is situated some six miles east of Totnes in an attractive rural village just inside the border of Teignbridge District Council with the South Hams.
It was constructed in 1870 on the previous site of the village workhouse, adjacent to the church and consists of just one main building housing three classrooms; a library / IT suite, office and staffroom.
There is a small outdoor area to the rear of the school, which has recently been re-covered with a special soft safety surface, and is used as a play area and outdoor classroom. There is also a large playground and field opposite school which is used by the children for recreation time, PE lessons and special events.
The school enjoys the luxury of a minibus which is regularly used to transport children around the County for a range of trips and events including sports competitions, performing arts and educational visits.
