Broadhempston Village Primary School

Beech Class

Welcome to Beech Class!

Children start their special journey here at Broadhempston School in Beech class. We are a small class of just reception children and we are taught by Miss Potter. In the afternoons we join Willow Class where Miss Potter continues to teach us Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons and on a Wednesday afternoon, Miss Nicolson teaches us. We have support from Miss Reed in the afternoons.

We are all smarties and have made some class rules that we follow to ensure we all have the best days at school. Have a look at what we decided our golden rules will be:

Our Golden Rules!

We will try to be kind and help everyone.

We will listen carefully to each other.

We will follow instructions sensibly.

We will play nicely with each other and share.

When we are on the carpet, we will sit smartly with our legs crossed.

We will try to remember to put up our hand up.

We will try to do our best with everything.

We use kind hands. feet and words.

Long Term Curriculum Overview for Beech and Willow Class!

Literacy and Phonics

In Class 1 we follow the synthetic phonics scheme Phonics Bugs and supplement this with Jolly Phonics actions and Phonics Play games. This gives children a fantastic start and ensures children are reading by 6 and that these books match their phonetic stage. Reading and playing phonics games at home everyday helps your child improve their reading and writing skills dramatically and I thank you for your support in this.

As well as our Phonics Bugs lesson we have daily literacy lessons. Every week we look at a new book to help hook the children to really enjoy their writing, play and build their vocabulary.

Please speak to your child's teacher for advice and guidance in supporting your child to read at home including how to pronounce each sound as well as segmenting and blending words. Children will soon have access to a Phonics Bugs account which has a 'grown up's' section to support you. Please see below videos on how your child's Phonics Bugs subscription is used in preparation for our launch!

We use White Rose Maths to develop fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. We make our maths lessons fun, engaging and practical.
