Broadhempston Village Primary School

Phonics in our School

At Broadhempston Primary School we have a well established phonics programme based on synthetic phonics. Phonics Bug, Letters and Sounds, Jolly Phonics and Phonics play resources all support learning in this area.

Children read phonetically decodable books following the Phonics Bug reading scheme and supported by other schemes to add depth, breadth and variety.

When ready, children in KS1 will move onto the Accelerated Reader scheme.

As well as our phonics lesson we have daily literacy lessons. We use good quality books to help hook the children and as an impact see children enjoying their writing time.

Current reading schemes used in school are:

Phonics Bug

Oxford Reading Tree,

Project X

Rigby Star
