Broadhempston is a traditional village school, which was built in 1870. The school currently has on roll 73 children, split between four classes. It is situated some six miles east of Totnes in an attractive rural village just inside the border of the Teignbridge District Council and is a co-educational day school for pupils aged between 4 and 11 years. We are part of the Totnes Hub of Village Schools, within the Link Academy Trust.
The school consists of one main building which has 4 classrooms, an Office and Staff room. There is an outdoor area to the rear of the school, which has been re-covered with a special soft safety surface, and is used as a play area and outdoor classroom. There is also a large playground and village hall opposite the school which is used by the children at play/lunch time and for PE lessons and special events.
The school also enjoys the luxury of a minibus which was paid for by the PTFA and is regularly used to transport children around the county for a range of trips including sports competitions, performing arts events and educational visits. We also provide Forest School sessions, children visit our outdoor site at the wooded area of the Beacon in small groups on a regular basis to explore and learn about their environment.
With links to our partner schools within the Trust (Bearnes, Stoke Gabriel, Cheriton Bishop, Diptford, Harbertonford, Hennock, Landscove, Tedburn St Mary and Yeoford) and the local community, our children are given lots of learning opportunities outside the classroom and exciting experiences in all areas of the curriculum.
